Declaration by the BNG on the escalation of the situation in the Middle East
As an organisation that defines itself as anti-imperialist and anti-war and that defends solidarity between peoples as the basis for coexistence and world peace, the BNG reiterates its unreserved condemnation of the calculated expulsion and extermination of the Palestinian people committed by the State of Israel from the very time of its foundation 76 years ago. This situation has only worsened and accelerated over the last year, degenerating into outright genocide focused mainly on the Gaza Strip but also affecting the West Bank with over 40,000 dead, including 16,500 children, and a further 100,000 people injured and maimed. Millions of civilians also been repeatedly evacuated to supposedly “safe zones”, condemned to scrape by in inhumane conditions, prey to famine and disease and where they are not safe from attacks by the Israeli government.
The Zionism that fuels the Israeli government is a racist ideology, recognised as such in Resolution 3379 adopted by the UN General Assembly as far back as 1975. It is inherently supremacist, colonialist and expansionist from the very outset and the current resumption of attacks against Lebanon comes after a spate of raids beyond its borders, including the Israeli air strike that destroyed the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus. To date, the attacks against the Lebanese people, who already live in dire conditions, have already led to the death of over 700 people as well as the assassination of leaders of the Palestinian resistance in Iran and Lebanon. This poses an imminent risk of a dangerous conflagration that threatens to engulf the entire region, further stoked by the land invasion of southern Lebanon that began in the morning of 1 October.
The so-called “international community” has historically aided and abetted this spiral of violence and continues to do so today, most notably involving the necessary collusion of the United States, NATO and the European Union, including the Spanish State.
In the face of this dramatic situation of catastrophic proportions for the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples that looms large over the Middle East as a whole as well as the rest of the world, the BNG is committed to continue to show its support for the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples by participating in the events that have been taking place around the country over the last year year, defending the right of the Palestinian people to statehood and demanding the immediate halt to Israeli aggressions and active engagement in search of a peaceful and negotiated solution. We also demand the immediate and total suspension of the sale and supply of arms and other materials necessary for their manufacture to Israel by all member states of the European Union.
The BNG calls upon the Galizan people to take to the streets en masse during the national demonstration due to be held in the capital Santiago de Compostela, leaving at mid-day from the central Alameda Park on Sunday 6 October with the slogan “Galiza with Palestine”.
Palestine will win!
Solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples!
