Statement by the Galizan Nationalist Bloc (BNG) on the Recent Events in the Syrian Arab Republic

The National Executive of the Galizan Nationalist Bloc (BNG) issues the following statement in the light of on-going events in the Syrian Arab Republic:

1. We closely monitor the alarming events as they unfold and the consequences that they could have for the Syrian population.
2. As a pacifist and anti-imperialist organisation we demand that all efforts be made to achieve a peaceful and democratic solution, respecting the right to self-determination and the exercise of sovereignty by the people free from outside interference by international powers and with an immediate end to the violence. The priority must be to protect the lives and rights of the Syrian population and to avoid any reactionary assault on rights and freedoms, particularly the rights of women based on the experience of the rise to power of groups linked to Islamist jihadism.
3. We demand that the UN adopts all the measures necessary towards an immediate ceasefire and that it calls upon the rest of the international and regional actors to halt all direct and indirect hostilities and interference in Syria.
4. This situation also has repercussions for the wider region as a whole, in a Middle East already facing a very dangerous escalation of war and the on-going brutal genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people. We are, therefore, facing the real risk of reproducing in Syria the situations already underway in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, further increasing instability and subordinating the people to the vested geostrategic interests of imperialism.
